Basic Chili

This is a chili recipe our family has used for quite a while.  It’s a pretty standard no frills recipe, but quite delicious.

  • 1 large can brooks (or kunners) chili beans
  • 1 large can tomato sauce
  • 2 cans dark red kidney beans (add one for more beans)
  • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 lb hamburger
  • onions
  • chili powder
  • tobasco sauce
  • other spices to taste

Brown hamburger, and onions.  Combine all ingredients in CrockPot and cook on low for 6-8 hours.

I suggest a Texas Chili. Very very good.

-Fatty meat (dont use lean meat, the fat will melt and meat will be juicy)
-Different chili fruits: Jalapeno, chili, habanero, smoked chipotle, etc
    -Cumin (this is extremely important)
    -Garlic
    -Beer
    -Salt, pepper, etc

Cut the meat into 2-3cm cubes. Fry the meat. Mix the chilis and garlic. Throw everything into the pan without lid. First 2 hours it is very simmery and watery. After another 1-2hours the water start to vaporize quickly and suddenly it gets really thick and tasty. Dont eat until it gets thick and chunky. It takes 3-4h normally. If you wish, add some beans. Not can of sweet beans, but salt water beans.

If you wish, you can instead use ground meat and tomato cans instead of whole meat and beer. Then you just proceed as normal. Dont forget the cumin!

Try it someday. Extremely addicting. Dont add anything else. First try this variant. Then you can digress in the future. I eat this with little heavily salted chopped onion and rice and beer. My friends force me to cook it for them, regurlarly.

Great! Thanks for the alternative recipe. I’ll try this one next time I’m looking to make some Chili.
