Emergency Conditions Beyond UPS’ Control
My UPS package was apparently delayed. I just checked the status on their site and it is currently in Commerce City, CO with the 2am status ‘EMERGENCY CONDITIONS BEYOND UPS’ CONTROL’. What exactly does that mean? It was the middle of the night and no storms that I know of. Did the truck get tipped over? Argh.
Update (2009/7/9 at 4:24pm): I still need to make a few calls and see if someone at UPS knows what is going on. However, there a now two more entries on the tracking pages, all of them are listed at 2am though I know the two new entries were recently added (within the last hour or so). The first says ‘EMERGENCY CONDITIONS BEYOND UPS’ CONTROL’ again. The second says ‘THE PACKAGE WAS MISSED AT THE DESTINATION LOCATION’. Does that mean that the package was lost in transit from Salina KS to Commerce City CO? Not sure… Hopefully a phone call or two will provide some answers.
Update (2009/7/9 at 6:42pm): Thanks to a visitor who posted a link to a 9news story concerning what happend to our packages. I never got around to calling, but this story pretty much answers my questions. Turns out there was a fire at the shipping center. ~500 packages were damaged and the rest are delayed a few days. Unlucky!
Final Update (2009/7/12 at 2:22pm): Yesterday the status of my package was updated with ‘DEPARTURE SCAN’ at 4:11am. Looks like it should be here in a few days. Hopefully not too many packages were delayed much more than this.
Actual Final Update (2009/7/13 at 8:16pm): The package was delivered later this afternoon.
funny. my package is stuck in Commerce City as well…EMERGENCY CONDITIONS BEYOND UPS CONTROL’. Maybe the fork-lift guy took the night off to go dancing? Fed Ex from here on out.
Yeah, I must be a UPS-party-gone-awry situation. Crazy fork-lift drivers.
My problem is the shipper of my package doesn’t offer a choice, so it was UPS or nothing.
it should be delivered tomorrow.. TT: UPS, there was a fire @ the facility. It would say in your tracking info if the package was damaged in the incident.

What is TT? Have you talked to someone and found out there was a fire?

I don’t even know what this forum is for, but I found your topic when I googled what the phrase “emergency conditions beyond UPS’ control” meant, as I have the exact same series of messages the OP had on a package I was tracking. yeah, I found out about the fire today when I called Eastbay to find out where my teams jerseys were. My overnight shipping was refunded. My only hope is that all the gear doesn’t come smelling like smoke.

I’m glad you got refunded for the overnight shipping. Hopefully our stuff isn’t too messed up. Though with 100,000 packages in the shipping center, only ~500 were damaged, so I think odds are we’re ok. I’m curious to know if anyone that swings by this post ended up with a damaged package. That’d be no fun at all.
i called thursday and they lied to me. they said it was in transit. Never said anything about a fire said it would be here monday and they lied. i called today and all of a sudden there is a fire and it wont be here till tues, ya right. the first person had no problem lying i dont dought one sec that the next person i talked to will lye too. do they really think that lyeing will help anything. they could have told me the truth on thursday and i would have exceped it. but for the package to be late and lied to about it what are they thinking. well no package on orignal due date no package on the second due date damm sure not expceting it to be here the third!
I never ended up calling anyone, so they had no chance to lie to me. One update though, I believe my package will end up coming today as the status is now ‘Out for delivery’. Good luck with your package, I hope it gets to you when this second person said it will. Have you looked at the tracking status to see if it has moved out of the distribution center?
Turns out my package was destroyed in the fire. I find this out today, UPS never called me. The status on their web-site never changed. I’ll never use them again.
Wow, that’s ridiculous. Bad customer service for sure. How did you find out, by calling them? Or did you go through Eastbay? I’m guessing Eastbay will end up sending out new shipment?
UPS would not give me any answers because I was not the sender. I found out from Eastbay, and everything from them that I ordered is now on back order because it’s no longer in stock. The only option left is going to a different store and not using UPS.
Good luck getting your stuff replaced. Sounds like this has been quite an inconvenience for you. It sucks that any of this had to happen at all…
my package says the same thing, but its in seattle. it was supost to be deliverd today. how long is it going to take now?
Sounds like some other UPS fiasco. hopefully not another fire. Maybe just a minor delay this time.
Actually! no wouldn’t be a forklift guy! It was a fire. and a Missed at destination scan means that it was missed and left in the building that would have delivered it!
Usually that delay is a one day thing.
